5 Common Vastu Door Direction Mistakes & Remedies

Mistake #1: Wrong Vastu Door Direction, Wrong Pada, Reflective Glass Doors

Here are some of the common mistakes people make. Make sure to read the main door Vastu tips till the end.

• Main door facing South, South-west

South and South-West are considered inauspicious for the main entrance vastu. These are zones of negativity and stability. When your door opens in these directions, it can block career growth, increase debts and lead to constant health struggles.

• Main door facing North-West

People hear “North is auspicious” and assume North-West is fine too. But the North-West door can bring legal issues, unstable jobs, and sudden exits if not balanced properly.

• Main door placed in the wrong pada

Main doors should be placed only in the North or East. But if they are placed in the wrong pada, it can bring bad luck.  For example, on the North wall, the best pada is the 5th pada from the NE corner, called Mukhya Pada. If your main door falls in the 3rd or 6th pada, it can lead to stagnant finances, career setbacks, frequent arguments or instability.

• Reflective main glass doors

Glass doors can be aesthetic. But energy-wise, they bounce positive energy right out, especially if there’s no solid frame and the door reflects the entrance or the road outside.

How to fix them?

• Use Vastu strips, like copper, brass, or lead, under the threshold to correct the energy.
• Place lead Vastu pyramids near the door corners or use Vastu partitions inside.
• For South or SW doors, hang a horseshoe or Panchamukhi Hanuman photo outside the entrance.
• Shift the door slightly, if possible, to a more favourable pada.
• Replace transparent or reflective doors with frosted glass, etching, or wooden panelling designs.
• Paint the doors with the recommended Vastu colours, like white, off-white, or cream.

Mistake #2: Toilet or kitchen close to the main door

If you live in a compact flat, this is a common issue. The kitchen or toilet ends up near the entryway.

In Vastu, fire (kitchen) and waste (toilet) zones near the main door can block the inflow of positive energy, causing health issues, money problems, unstable emotions and lack of peace or constant stress.

How to fix it?

• Use Vastu partitions, like a wooden or bamboo partition or curtain, between the main door and the toilet/kitchen.
• Hang a small crystal ball or plant in between the spaces to absorb negative energy.
• Paint the kitchen/toilet door a neutral colour to make it less visible energetically.

This is one of the most overlooked Vastu door direction tips, especially in compact urban homes.

Mistake #3: Main door opens outward

An outward-opening main door pushes away good opportunities, money, blessings, and good luck. In Vastu, it is a strict no.

How to fix it?

• If possible, re-hinge the door to open inward.
• If that’s not possible, place a brass Vastu nameplate or small welcome sign to symbolically “invite” energy in.
• Keep the door area neat and inviting, with good lighting and welcome mats.

Mistake #4: Main door directly faces another home’s door

In apartments, it is common for the two doors to face each other. Energy flows directly from one house to the other and causes clashes, arguments and creates bad vibes. This falls under the door facing direction Vastu issue.

How to fix it?

• Place a strip of copper or lead metal under your threshold.
• Use a Vastu chakra sticker above the door or heavy curtains.
• Use a toran (mango leaf garland or Vastu strip) above your door.
• Place two small plants or brass urns on either side to buffer the energy clash.

Mistake #5: Clutter or shoe rack near the entrance

Placing piles of shoes, dustbins or keeping the entryways messy blocks the energy from entering freely and creates stagnation, inviting negative energy. You may experience constant tiredness, unexpected losses, low mood or frustration.

How to fix it?

• Move the shoe rack to the side, instead of keeping it in front of the door.
• Get a shoe rack with doors and do not leave it open.
• Have plants near the entrance.
• Add a mirror on the side wall (not directly opposite the door) to expand space and energy flow.
• Keep the entrance clutter-free, well-lit, and fresh-smelling.
