What is Vastu Shastra?

Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian science of architecture that harmonizes living space with the five natural elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. It promotes well-being, prosperity, and peace.

Importance of Vastu Shastra For Home

The ancient Vastu tips for home help you create an environment that nurtures happiness, health, and wealth. You can think of it as a blueprint for designing spaces that align with the natural flow of energy. When applied thoughtfully, Vastu can help you neutralize negative influences and enhance the positive energy in your home.

So, follow these simple 15 Vastu tips for home interiors and create a home that is filled with a positive aura and energy.

1. Direction of The Main Entrance

The most basic guideline in Vastu for any home is the placement of the main entrance. It should be located in the north, east, or northeast direction. The sun also rises in the east, and an entrance facing north or northeast is thought to invite those uplifting vibes into the home. A well-placed entrance not only welcomes guests but also encourages the smooth flow of energy into your space.

2. Placement of Pooja Room

Your entire home is sacred, but the pooja room holds the highest spiritual significance. According to Vastu Shastra, this sacred space should ideally be located in the northeast corner of the house, which is considered the most spiritually charged direction. However, if that’s not feasible, many Vastu tips for home interiors suggest placing it in the east or north as suitable alternatives.

3. Vastu Colours For Home Interiors

Colours play a big role in setting the mood and energy of your home. Each direction has its own set of colours: blue tones work well in the north, greens are great for the east, and vibrant reds or oranges bring energy to the south. For peaceful spaces like the pooja room, bedroom, or study, calming colours are ideal, like cream, pale yellow, and soft green help create a soothing, positive vibe.

4. Plants For Positivity

Plants are one of the most powerful sources of positive energy. According to Vastu, plants like Tulsi, money plant, bamboo, and peace lily are known to attract harmony, prosperity, and peace when placed in the right direction. Make sure your plants are thriving, nurture them with care, and you’ll feel an instant boost just by seeing that refreshing greenery around your house.

5. Vastu Furniture Placement

Furniture placement in Vastu is all about creating balance and smooth energy flow. You should always keep heavy pieces like sofas and wardrobes in the south or west to ground the space, and arrange seating so it faces east or north.

6. Kitchen: Heart Of The House

The kitchen is considered the heart of the home, and placing it in the southeast corner is believed to bring good health and harmony. If that isn’t possible, the northwest is the next best option. Also, it’s best to avoid placing the kitchen in the northeast or southwest, as these directions can disturb the flow of energy.

7. Placement of Bathroom

As per Vastu, bathrooms should always be in the northwest or west direction. Avoid placing washrooms in the northeast or the center of the house, as it can block positive energy. Make sure you clean your bathroom daily, keep it well-ventilated, and ensure it’s not left dirty. Also, always keep the bathroom doors closed.

8. Bedroom Placement

As per Vastu, your master bedroom should be in the southwest corner of the house, as this direction is believed to promote stability and restful sleep. Avoid sleeping with your head towards the north or east, as it may disturb your peace and sleep quality.

9. Placement of Window

According to Vastu tips for home interiors, windows are considered the “eyes” of a house. It’s best to place larger windows in the north, east, or northeast directions, as these bring in the most natural light and positive energy. Avoid making large windows in the southwest, but if they’re necessary, keep them small and minimal to maintain balance in the space.

10. Mirror Direction

Mirrors represent the water element and should be placed on the north or east walls. So, avoid mirrors on the south or southwest walls, as they can disrupt energy flow. Never place a mirror directly opposite the bed or main entrance, it may reflect away positive energy.

11. Placement of Waterbodies

If you have water features like fountains, aquariums, or small ponds, they should be placed in the northeast, north, or east directions. These placements are believed to attract wealth, peace, and clarity. Avoid placing waterbodies in the southwest, as it may lead to instability or financial loss

12. Figures of Idols

Idols of deities should always be placed in the pooja room, ideally in the northeast corner of the house. Ensure they face east or west, and avoid placing them directly on the floor and use a clean, raised platform. Also, as per Vastu tips for home interiors, don’t overcrowd your pooja room with too many idols, and avoid broken or chipped figures.

13. Study Room Direction

The best directions for a study room are the northeast, east, or north. The study table should be placed so the person faces east or north while studying. Keep the space clutter-free, well-lit, and use calming colours like light green or blue to enhance focus and concentration.

14. Staircase in the House

The best direction for staircases is the south, west, and southwest direction of the house. Make sure your staircases are not in the northeast or center of the house, as this can disturb the energy balance. Also, the area of the staircase should have natural light and avoid using the space under the stairs for a pooja room or kitchen.

15. Cleanliness & Clutter

A clean house is a happy house. According to Vastu, a house that is clean and well-maintained has a better flow of positive energy. Clutter inhibits the flow of energy, therefore, leave corners open, plan surfaces to stay tidy, and throw away broken or unused items. Cleanliness not only helps in welcoming positive energy into the house but also into your mind.
