What Is Scalloped Wallpaper?

Scalloped wallpaper features repeating arcs or half-circle patterns, resembling waves, shells, or fish scales. It dates back to the Art Deco architecture of the 1920s. Unlike stripes or florals, scallops are neutral, yet expressive.

Why Are Scallops Trending In 2025?

Here are the reasons why scalloped wallpapers are trending now.

• They complement other 2025 interior trends, such as curved sofas, arched mirrors, and round pendant lights.
• Psychologists say that scallop curves calm the mind and look more harmonious than sharp angles, by bringing the softness indoors.
• If your home is plain white or beige, scallops balance that minimalism by just adding texture and not being overwhelming.
• Scalloped wallpapers are not expensive to maintain. Regular dusting is enough. Wipeable or moisture-resistant finishes make cleaning easy, keeping them fresh and lasting for many years.

Key Factors To Consider Before You Buy Scalloped Wallpaper

Before buying scalloped wallpaper for your room, here are a few factors to consider. Based on these, choose the one that suits your requirements the best.

Room size and scale of scallops

• Large scallops, which are 10 to 12 inches high, suit big living rooms and double-height walls.
• Medium scallops, which are 6 to 8 inches high, are versatile and fit bedrooms or dining areas.
• Small scallops, which are 3 to 5 inches high, are perfect for compact rooms, kids’ spaces, or as half-wall accents.

Ceiling height

• If your room has a low ceiling, vertical scallops or wave-like scallops make the room feel taller.
• If your room has a high ceiling, bold horizontal scallops keep the space grounded.

Natural light & colours

• If your room gets bright daylight, opt for scallops of jewel tones like emerald or navy.
• For low-light rooms, choose scallops of pastels or metallic highlights.
• For north-facing rooms that get no sunlight at all, neutral scallops like beige, ivory, and taupe work the best.

Durability & finish

While buying for scalloped wallpapers, check product labels for

• GSM (grams per square meter)

The higher the GSM, the thicker the wallpaper and the more durable.

• Finish

Matte finish looks more elegant, glossy finish enhances scallop curves, and fabric finish adds warmth.

• Washable or wipeable

For kitchens, kids’ rooms and bathrooms, opt for wipeable wallpapers.
